Privacy Policy

Last updated: 12 August 2026

Laurent & Lys (“we”, “us”, “our”) respects the trust of everyone who visits this website, joins Lysden, or applies to The Laurent Room. This policy explains, in plain language, what personal information we collect, why we collect it, how it is used and protected, and what rights you have over it. It applies to laurentandlys.com and to any application, waitlist, or contact form on this site.

1. Who We Are

Laurent & Lys is a family stewardship established in 1926, operating two related but distinct offerings: Lysden, an open community connecting people with verified, natural and regenerative farms, and The Laurent Room, a private, invitation-only estate and food-ecosystem service for a limited number of clients each season. For the purposes of applicable data protection law, Laurent & Lys is the entity responsible for deciding how and why your personal data is processed through this website — what is sometimes called a “data fiduciary” under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, or a “data controller” under the EU/UK General Data Protection Regulation.

2. Information We Collect

We only collect what is necessary to review your application, respond to your enquiry, or operate this website properly. Depending on how you interact with us, this may include:

  • Identity and contact details — full name, email address, and/or phone number, submitted through our Lysden application, Laurent Room application, or Contact Us form. We require at least one of email or phone, so we can reach you, but never insist on both.
  • Location details — the city and state you provide, used only to understand where our community and applicants are based.
  • Application context — for Lysden, whether you are joining as a farmer/producer or as a consumer/member, and a short note on why you wish to join. For The Laurent Room, the size of land you own for an estate plan, and a short note on why you wish to become a Laurent.
  • How you heard about us — an optional referral source (for example, Instagram, a friend, press, or an event), used only to understand which channels reach genuine applicants.
  • Correspondence — any message you send us directly, by email or through the Contact Us form, including your stated reason for contact.
  • Technical information — standard, non-identifying data such as browser type, device type, and general usage patterns, collected automatically when you browse the site, in order to keep it working correctly and securely.

We do not ask for, and you should never send us, sensitive financial information (such as card or bank account numbers) through any form on this website.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the personal information described above only to:

  • Review and respond to your Lysden or Laurent Room application, including verifying the information you have shared with us before extending an invitation.
  • Reply to enquiries submitted through our Contact Us form.
  • Send you a confirmation once your application has been received, and follow up personally where appropriate.
  • Understand, in aggregate, how people find and use this website, so that we can keep it fast, legible, and free of clutter.
  • Meet our legal, tax, and record-keeping obligations, and protect the safety and integrity of our community and estates.

We do not use your information for automated profiling, and we do not run targeted advertising based on your personal data. Every application to Lysden or The Laurent Room is read and reviewed personally by our team — not by an automated system.

4. Legal Basis for Processing

Where India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 applies, we process your personal data on the basis of the consent you give when you submit a form on this website, and for the specified, legitimate purpose of considering your application or responding to your message. Where the EU/UK GDPR applies — for instance, if you are based in Europe or the United Kingdom — we rely on your consent, and on our legitimate interest in operating a considered, invitation-based application process, as the legal basis for processing.

5. Cookies and Similar Technologies

This website uses a minimal set of cookies and similar local-storage technologies strictly necessary to make pages load correctly and to remember basic preferences (such as whether a menu is open). We do not currently use third-party advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. If this changes in the future, we will update this policy and, where required by law, ask for your consent first.

6. Who We Share Information With

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to anyone, under any circumstances. We share personal information only with the small number of trusted service providers who help us operate this website and process applications, and only to the extent needed for them to perform that function — for example, our email delivery provider, used solely to send application confirmations and internal notifications, and our website hosting provider. These providers are contractually bound to handle your data securely and only on our instructions.

We may also disclose personal information where required to do so by law, regulation, or a valid legal process, or where necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of Laurent & Lys, our community members, or the public.

7. How Long We Keep Your Information

We retain application and correspondence data for as long as is reasonably necessary to consider your application, respond to your enquiry, and maintain a record of our decision. If your application is not taken forward, we retain the information for a limited period to allow you to re-apply and to fulfil our own record-keeping obligations, after which it is deleted or anonymised. If you become a Lysden member or a Laurent Room client, information relevant to that ongoing relationship is retained for as long as the relationship continues, and thereafter only as required by law.

8. How We Protect Your Information

We apply reasonable technical and organisational safeguards — including encrypted transmission of data submitted through our forms and restricted internal access — to protect your personal information against unauthorised access, alteration, disclosure, or loss. No method of transmission or storage is completely infallible, and we cannot guarantee absolute security, but we treat the information you share with us with the same seriousness we would want shown to our own.

9. Your Rights

Depending on where you are based, you may have the right to access the personal information we hold about you, request that it be corrected if inaccurate, request its erasure, withdraw any consent you have given, ask us to restrict certain processing, or request a copy of it in a portable format. If you are in India, the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 additionally gives you the right to nominate another individual to exercise these rights on your behalf in the event of your death or incapacity, and the right to have your grievance redressed by us in the first instance.

To exercise any of these rights, write to us at founder@laurentandlys.com. We will respond within a reasonable time, and in any event within the period required by applicable law.

10. Children's Privacy

This website and our services are intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under the age of 18. If we become aware that we have inadvertently collected information from a minor without appropriate consent, we will delete it promptly.

11. International Visitors

Laurent & Lys is based in India, and the personal information you provide may be processed and stored in India or in the jurisdictions where our service providers operate. Where we transfer personal information across borders, we take reasonable steps to ensure it continues to receive an appropriate level of protection consistent with this policy.

12. Third-Party Links

This website may link to third-party sites, such as our social media profiles. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those third parties, and we encourage you to review their own privacy policies before sharing information with them.

13. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or in applicable law. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page will always reflect the most recent revision. We encourage you to review this page periodically.

14. Contact and Grievance Redressal

If you have a question, concern, or complaint about how your personal information has been handled, please write to our founder directly at founder@laurentandlys.com. We take every such enquiry seriously and will do our best to resolve it promptly and in good faith.
